Rabbits

Rabbit housing requires clean, dry, and well-ventilated facilities with enough space, along with balanced feeding based on high-quality feed to support health and productivity.

Feeding recommendations

Feeding management should take into account the physiological traits of rabbit feeding behaviour. Rabbits eat small portions 25 to 30 times per day, while young animals eat even more often. For this reason, it is important to ensure a constant feed supply throughout the day and at the same time prevent food supplies overheating or spoilage. Rabbits have a well-developed sense of taste and show high sensitivity to feed and water quality.

Rabbits have a well-developed digestive system and digest fibre-rich material in the caecum with the help of bacteria and protozoa. This supports normal gastrointestinal function. Therefore, the crude fibre level in the diet should not fall below 12 %. At the age of 5 to 9 weeks, it should be at least 13 %, while during the fattening period it should reach from 14 to 15 %. Special attention should pay to lignin content, which should not drop below 5 %.
